The Cast

First of all, let's meet the boys, the heroes of our story:

Brendan Ashe

Lives in a well-to-do suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, USA and attends a private, all boys Catholic school. He’s the President of the Mac Club, Production Director of the school Yearbook and Newspaper and plays on the school soccer team. He’s a talented artist, who does most of the graphic work for his and Jason’s collection of webpages, as well as contributing fanart to a variety of anime pages, and drawing his own online manga. He’s a totally nice guy, and chicks dig him, though he seems a bit oblivious to their ardor. He has a twin sister named Brooke Lynn (she goes by Brooklyn for obvious reasons) and a little brother named Jason, but we'll get to them in a moment.

Jason Ashe

Brendan’s younger, genius brother. Jason is a Freshman at St. Louis University, though he’s only 11 years old. He’s very deeply into all things computer. He taught himself a variety of programming languages, especially those useful to the Internet. He writes his own software and prefers to build his own hardware. He has what his siblings affectionately refer to as the JAN (Jason Area Network) in a special room his parents built for him in the basement. From there, he hosts his own webpage, as well as other people’s, tests commercial software and games and probably engages in activities that would get him into a lot of trouble if he ever got caught. He has been known to do a little consulting work, and it’s rumored that certain unnamed super-huge software companies are dying for him to become old enough to be legally hired. He’s into RPGs, anime, manga, American comics and soccer.

Akio Yamaguchi

Hair: Dark brown (most of the time), longish, just past his earlobes.

He’s stayed with the Ashes before as an exchange student and since he’s the same age and shares many interests with Brendan, the boys became good friends. When Brendan goes to Tokyo as an exchange student, he stays with Akio’s family. Also, Akio’s father is a high-placed Suit, who travels internationally, just as Robert Ashe does, so the families formed a friendship. Akio attends one of the best schools in Tokyo and is a very good student. He loves to play soccer and baseball, is a member of the Kendo Club and Student Council. He has a secret crush on Brooklyn, who, unbeknownst to him, feels the same way... but since her family won’t let her date until she’s 16, Akio hasn’t mentioned his feelings.

*The character of Akio is named for an online friend, the late Akio Nagatomi of the Anime Cafe, a man whose wit and kindness I sorely miss.

There are also three girls:

Brooke Lynne Ashe (Goes by Brooklyn, for obvious reasons)

Brendan’s twin sister. She attends a private, all girls Catholic school, the sister school to Brendan's. She plays on the Lacrosse team, the basketball team, the soccer team and is a member of the Drama Club, Yearbook staff, Newspaper staff, President of the Student Council and is a straight A student (where does she get all this energy?) Writes Brendan’s online manga and the occasional work of fanfiction for his and Jason’s anime and manga shrines. Mostly, though, she simply doesn’t have the time with all her extracurricular activities. Very popular and chomping at the bit to date, though her parents have forbidden it till she’s 16. The guys are counting the days till her birthday, as is Akio Yamaguchi, who has stayed with the Ashes as an exchange student a few times and has a big crush on her. Little does he know, she feels the same but hasn’t the nerve to tell him and vehemently denies having any such feelings should anyone ask.

Sharissa Walker

Brooklyn’s best friend and classmate. Sharissa’s father is a Partner in the same law firm as Brooklyn’s, and the two men play tennis together. She’s not as into sports as Brooke is, though she played on the Tennis team one year. She’s more interested in academics, theatre and writing and has aspirations of becoming an actress, director and/or screenwriter. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis and writes for the Hues website (as well as school publications and other on and offline publications). She founded Hues to promote cultural diversity and turned it into one of area’s most popular youth clubs. She was supposed to go to Japan as an exchange student with Brooklyn and Brendan but chose to stay home when her mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and Brooklyn got into an accident. (Sharissa is African-American.)

Mai Mishima

She’s Jason’s age and shares his interests and advanced intelligence. She’s also in University, in Japan. She became a friend of Jason’s after meeting him in a chat room, discussing software design. She was supposed to meet him, Brendan and Akio at Tokyo Tower, but her mother got sick, so she had to stay home and help take care of her baby brother. Mai is too cute for words, utterly kawaii, perky and a total girly-girl. She loves cute stuffed animals, pastel colors and shoujo Magical Girl stories.

Flurry

Age: 18 in Fairy Years, which is about 1800 in human years

The boys' protector and guide when they first arrive in Ymir is an Ice Fairy warrior named Flurry, who has an attitude as big as she is small (about 4-feet). Flurry is the head of the armies of the good guys and is widely considered to be the finest warrior in all of Ymir. Her only rival is a Fire Fairy named Spark, head of Silverfrost's forces. These two have been spoiling for a showdown for more than a thousand years but something always prevents it. Flurry is sent to protect the boys and bring them to Landsmeet by the Ymirian Council of Mages.

Danna Loden

Age: 127 (she’s magical, so time flows differently for her)

Danna Loden is head of the Ymrian Council of Mages. She's tall, curvy, gorgeous, wears next to nothing and is a lesbian, lover to Queen Snowdrop of Ysgard and advisor to the Queen's Human husband King Baldor (Snowdrop the Ice Fairy is his second wife and only agreed to the marriage to be close to Danna, who hates cold places; the marriage was never consummated).

Silverfrost

The Ice Fairy Silverfrost used to be Head of the Council of Mages, then bailed to release the Chaos in a last-ditch attempt to make Snowdrop marry him, a quest he's been on for more than a thousand years. Denial runs strong in some people, I guess. His most trusted minions are the Fire Fairy Spark, Spark's disciple Blaze, the Human summoner Syrcie Laisha and the master swordsman Snowflake, an Ice Fairy and Silverfrost's cousin (Snowflake's a guy, by the way).
